Inspirations
Vedauwoo is a park in southern Wyoming known for the unique rock formations which rise abruptly from the high plains between Laramie and Cheyenne. Known for climbing, hiking, and outdoor sport, the name means "Garden of the Earth." Our brand is inspired by the place - but spelled differently as a show of respect to all who have loved it.
Beginnings
Scott Hunter (Founder) is from Casper, Wyoming. He fell in love early with outdoor adventure, heavily influenced by his time in Scouting, and with a family that loved camping and fishing. After recognizing a steady decline in the quality of goods available for these persuits - and the almost complete disappearance of gear Made in the USA - he committed to building quality packs and accessories wholly within the United States.
He started planning while a Senior at the University of Wyoming - and ultimately launched Vedavoo after finishing the Entrepreneurship focused program at Babson College (Massachusetts, USA).
Handbuilt Roots
After facing a series of challenges in the beginning, a timely conversation with Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard defined the future: "If you can't build something with your own hands, you have no business being in business."
Scott used his last $700 to buy a sewing machine, materials, and a year's worth of website service. Then, with only $12 left as a safety net, he began teaching himself how to design, pattern, and build gear out of his garage.
These lessons in humility and hard-work laid the foundations for all that would follow.
Early Innovations
From the early days in the garage, our journey continued out of Scott's basement after a move to central Massachusetts in 2011. Here the identity of what makes Vedavoo special really took hold.
A hallmark of this early success was the emergence of the TIGHTLINES SLING - a simple, minimalist sling bag that challenged the accepted norms and helped drive a shift in how fly anglers carried their gear in the field. The video below - recorded at IFTD 2012, highlights that product:

Though there are surely easier ways, we keep this one because it gives us total control over quality and the freedom to make adjustments needed to meet our customer's specific needs. FURTHER, on-demand methods also conserve energy while eliminating waste from unnecessary production.
