States for Saltwater Fly Fishing – Top Three Thursday July 19, 2018 – Posted in: Vedavoo – Tags: fly fishing, saltwater, Top3Thursday
What are the three best saltwater fly fishing destinations in the USA?
23 states have coastlines. That means that nearly half of the US has saltwater access! Here are our top three state choices for saltwater fly fishing destinations. What would your top three be?
- Florida – Obviously. You’d have to have a personal grudge against the sunshine state to disagree. The Keys alone would warrant a spot on this list.
- Louisiana – With nearly 8,000 miles of coastal and estuarine habitat, Louisiana is only behind Alaska and Florida in opportunities for the angler. Add in tarpon, redfish, and the rest of what the Gulf has to offer? That is hard to beat.
- New York – If you live on the West Coast, the inclusion of the empire state might have you clicking “reply” out of anger. But hear us out: Long Island is not only a premier striper fishery, but NY is one of the most historic spots for saltwater fly fishing.
So, what did we leave out? Where is your favorite destination in the USA for saltwater fly fishing? What would your top three look like? Let us know below!

These may be the best saltwater fly fishing spots from a boat, but most fly anglers are on foot and I would argue New England (CT, RI, MA, NH, ME) and CA are most accessible to shore bound saltwater fly anglers.

Before you argue too much, spend some time on ether shore of Long Island, and almost anywhere in Florida. Again, either coast. No better access to inshore fishing…..
