Cheap Gear – Top Three Thursday October 4, 2018 – Posted in: Top 3 Thursday – Tags: fly fishing, Top3Thursday
What cheap fly fishing gear can you use and get away with it?
I know, I know: we all want nice gear. In fact, at Vedavoo we want you to have better gear! We have friends all over the fly fishing industry that crank out high performing equipment that will make your fishing and your outdoors experience better. That being said, there are times when you A) forgot something, B) are just getting started, or C) just don’t want to spend the money on something right now. Here are three cheap pieces of gear that you can use and still get by. What would your top three be?
- Reel If you are fishing for trout and most warmwater species, a reel is just there to hold line. Are there big trout and carp that need to be played with drag? Yes. But lots of fish don’t require hundreds of pounds of stopping force.
- Fly Box The little cup from the fly shop holds flies just fine. So do the plastic trays you can get at the WalMart fishin’ section.
- Sling Pack Just kidding.
- Hat We all have some beautiful, meaningful, and expensive headwear. Usually, it is a lot of them. All you really need is something to either cut down glare or keep your head warm
So, what did we leave out? What gear do you feel like you can go cheap on? What would your top three look like? Let us know below!
