    Hi Vedavoo,
I really like your blog idea about creating a campfire to talk about all things outdoors!

I am planning a little hiking trip in Wyoming and was hoping you might be able to recommend some trails? Thanks!

  2. Stephen J says:

This is great. I look forward to seeing what’s in store.

I love the campfire idea. I remember all those nights spent with friends around the fire talking about everything under the sun (or the moon). When I was a kid, I stayed up late into the freezing night, melting the soles on my shoes trying to keep warm. I miss it…I need to get back to it soon. Thanks for the encouragement.

    Best of luck for Vedavoo.

    Rick,

We chose to use the passage because it inspires us – and because it spoke directly to the tragic events in Chile, Haiti, and other affected nations. In our eyes, it breeds hope that amidst the rubble, tomorrow will dawn a brighter day. Our company is based on Christian principles, and though we understand that not everyone shares our beliefs, we recognize that everyone can benefit from how they inspire us to be better people. That said, we hope you’ll look to the message instead of the source – and see that we are working to build up, not tear down or alienate.

Please keep the purpose for this product in mind – to help raise funds for the Red Cross and their relief efforts that are used to rebuild. In Haiti, Chile, and around the world, the Red Cross will make a significant impact for the good of peoples affected in these tragic events.

For more information on the Red Cross and their efforts, please visit:

    Best,
    Vedavoo

Much to come! We’ll be launching some of our bags in the coming weeks… thanks for your support! You’re welcome around our campfire any time.

Hi Emily. Thanks for your message! We’re making great strides as we approach the hiking season, and we’re excited about some of the new products we’ll be launching through our site in the coming weeks. We can definitely recommend some trails in Wyoming – that’s one thing that Wyoming has lots of! If you’re looking for a few good all around hiking trails – take a look at the Western side of the Wind River Range. The Big Sandy and Elkhart Park trailheads lead to some of the most beautiful country on earth – but it’s remote. If you’re looking for adventure, but closer to beaten paths – check out trail guides for Yellowstone NP or Grand Teton NP. You may enjoy a loop hike starting around Jenny Lake in Grand Teton National Park. The view from Hurricane Pass is second to none! Thanks for your support!

I started climbing almost two years ago. I was tired of the “gym type” sports and really wanted to be outside more. As a man with many hobbies, I had two small problems when it came to the idea of starting to rock climb. First of all, I am very afraid of heights. This has always plagued me as I was for 32 years, even afraid of being on a ladder to high. The second problem I have is that I was born with out a left hand. This was huge when it comes to the idea of climbing, especially since you really need two hands to hold on to a rock and move forward and upward. My wife and I started talking about the idea of me quiting my gym life and start climbing. I live in one of the most beautiful areas of the country in the Black Hills of South Dakota and there is a life-time of climbing just in this area alone. So after a few months of thought, I began my journey.
I started reading the magazines and “researching” the sport and traditional climbing methods and ideas just to start educating myself about what I was getting into. Then it was time to start buying my gear: harness, chalkbag, shoes, my rope, and started collecting the basic gear for sport climbing. Through the research, I learned about Sylvan Rocks Climbing & Guiding and made my first climbing trip with them over the 4th of July weekend.
My trip with them really got me hooked on climbing. From my first step on the rock, all I wanted to do was climb. I started hanging out with other climbers and really learning what climbing was really about. I have since climbed with others on a variety of routes and rock formations. I have slowly learned how to use the disability I have in climbing and really see it as a challenge, not a disability. Through friends in the climbing world I have learned methods of using it as well as areas I need to really work on.
Climbing brought my life back into focus, it brought back the challenges that I love and desire. Through the great climbers of the midwest, I took a positive love to this sport and a desire to teach others the idea of climbing. Since my first step on the rocks around Sylvan Lake, climbing forever has changed my heart, my soul, and my life. Never again will I see the rocks the same way as I did for 32 years. I see their challenge to me and to my disability, and I except it. It is the ultimate challenge to my life and the greatest sense of accomplishment for me. I thank the climbers that I have learned from and climbed with. They are the greatest……

  9. Cathy Meyer says:

Congrats Scott! Can’t wait to see the full line – I’ll be checking back in. Things are looking great for Vedavoo – a fantastic way to celebrate the day!! Happy Earth Day!

  10. Eric Schwarz says:

Love the site and would love to do that line some day.

  11. Chapa Rios says:

I have decided to find a job that involves climbing eveyday. I was wondering if you would have any ideas how i could do that, please reply back if so.

  12. Vedavoo says:

Hey Chapa – starting Vedavoo is as close as we’ve been able to find. We still don’t climb everyday, but we are surrounded by climbing everyday – designing bags and packs and coming up with ways to make time on rock more fun. I’d look in the industry and try to find a job with a rock gym, manufacturer, or guide service. Hope this helps!

  13. Larry says:

Hoo-ray, Scott! Sounds like Vedavoo is growing! Congratulations, my friend! P.S. I hope that garage isn’t too cold! The winter has been harsh!

  14. Vedavoo says:

Thank you, Larry! It’s been cold, but it only makes the end product sweeter when the path is tougher :) We’re getting ready for our first big order now – - – exciting times!

  15. Collin Beecher says:

Scott- This is bag looks beyond sick!!!! I can’t wait to give this a whirl in the months to come!!

Great site.I found it while reading Cameron’s flyfishing blog.
I see that you are looking for field testers for your flyfishing products.I fish mainly small out of the way waters, either on foot or out of a pontoon boat.During the spring until winter I fish at least 1 to 4 times a week.I fish for bass/panfish and trout.
    Chad.

    Brian,

You are an inspiration! Thank you for sharing your story. My 10 year old son has just started rock climbing in the last year or so and is hooked – he read your story this morning as he, coincidentally, headed off for his climbing camp and simply uttered a quiet, “wow” – and as I watched his face, I saw it all sink in. I am hoping that this sport serves him as well as it has for you as he faces his own ups and downs throughout his life. Thank you!!
